Zhang Xiyu

Please tell us about your role in JDT China.

As the head of the film releasing team in the Production Department, I am responsible for the slitting process of thermal transfer sheets that are used for adhesive bandages and ink-jet printers. Slitting is the process of cutting wide factory-laminated fabrics into specified widths. We cut the fabrics according to the widths that are meticulously specified in millimeters for each product, so precision is required at all times. Before the slitting process, I check the appearance of the fabric to determine if it is suitable for the process, and I also wrap and package it after the process. In particular, we pay special attention in terms of hygiene during the adhesive bandage slitting process, so we wear protective clothing and ensure quality control of the products. The 5S activities (Seiri: Classification, Seiton: Organization, Seiso: Cleaning, Seiketsu: Cleanliness, and Shitsuke: Discipline) are promoted as a factory-wide effort, so as a team leader, I give guidance to newcomers and make every effort to improve the work environment. I communicate with team members on a daily basis, and if they have any issues or problems, I quickly share them and take the lead in finding solutions, which is also an important part of my role.

At work or in the company, what would you like to challenge and achieve in the future?

I would like to learn a lot of knowledge and skills so that I can perform my current job more smoothly than I do now, and I would also like to improve my competence so that I can perform new tasks that my supervisor may assign to me. My first goal is to learn all the knowledge I need at the manufacturing site. In particular, I want to learn about the work that my direct supervisor is responsible for, and I hope to understand the work from a broader perspective. By learning the processing methods and technology involved not only in the work I am responsible for, but also in the processes that precede and follow it, I would like to understand the flow as a whole to facilitate much smoother production.

What are your challenges outside of work? What do you like to do? Any hobbies?

Outside of work, I like to read and travel. I read famous novels, biographies, and history books by eminent authors. I take my time to deepen learning through reading, but it is also important to gain actual experience to broaden knowledge. Like the saying “Read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles,” I appreciate the joy of learning new skills or trying new things. I recently drove to Hangzhou. I like to drive to places I have never been to before.

Please tell us what JDT China means to you.

JDT China is not just a place to work, but a place where I can develop myself and demonstrate my abilities. I have received training from a consultancy firm arranged by the company on improving production efficiency. Thanks to the training, I have learned the necessary knowledge to improve my management skills, and I can now put what I have learned into practice. The company offers many such learning opportunities, so I actively participate in these. I appreciate the opportunity to improve myself and feel a sense of accomplishment by being able to fully practice and apply what I have learned or experienced to my work.

Comparing before and after you joined the company, what has changed?

It has been two years since I started working for JDT China. During this time, I have learned a lot and grown with my enthusiastic colleagues. Before joining this company, I worked for a company as an ordinary employee. I did not have many opportunities to talk to people outside of work, and I never thought I would give a presentation in front of others. After joining JDT China, my work skills have improved, and my personality has become more positive and proactive. Now I feel I can work with more confidence. Also, I have been appointed as the head of the team, and this appointment demonstrates how I have become more active towards work. As for my 5S activities at the company, my commitment to these activities was recognized and I was selected as an outstanding employee. This has also led to a high level of self-confidence. At the end-of-the-year party, as a representative of the outstanding employees, I was given the opportunity to draw a lottery, and fortunately I won! I was very happy at that time. I feel fulfilled every day, and I can spend my time meaningfully.
