Gan Jiayuan

Please tell us about your role in JDT China.

As a member of the Physical Property Testing Division of the Quality Control Department, I am in charge of quality control in the Testing Lab and work to improve the quality system. I check whether the fabrics produced at JDT China successfully meet the standards agreed upon with customers based on physical property testing. This testing covers a wide range of items such as the level of breathability (the amount of vapor emission) and the level of preventing water from being absorbed (the level of water repellency). It is an important section as a “checkpoint” to prevent the discharge of products that do not meet the standards, so my job requires a great deal of responsibility. I also engage in adjusting work schedules, staff training, arrangement of comparative tests or external tests, data analysis, and customer service on a daily basis as well as provide assistance to my supervisor. Basically, I pay attention to the overall management of the Testing Lab. Customer service is also an important part of my job. While preparing the quality standards and work standards, I try to communicate the results of physical property testing promptly and accurately. As part of company-wide education and activities, the factory promotes 5S (Seiri: Classification, Seiton: Organization, Seiso: Cleaning, Seiketsu: Cleanliness, and Shitsuke: Discipline). I am a 5S Committee Member in the Testing Lab and I am responsible for equipment inspection, classification and organization of the work environment, and I am conscious of creating an environment where people feel comfortable while working.

At work or in the company, what would you like to challenge and achieve in the future?

I want to manage the Testing Lab more efficiently and systematically by learning the 4M1E (man, machine, material, method and environment) management method. In particular, I would like to organize a self-management system and create an environment where each employee can efficiently manage and improve their work. While assisting my supervisor, I would also like to be involved in setting up a LAB self-management team in the Physical Property Testing Division. In this way, I want to work on improving the overall management of the manufacturing site. Starting from small things that I can do, I want to take on challenges proactively. I hope my efforts will lead to the improvement of operational efficiency of the team, which will then lead to profit and growth of the entire company. I would like to try to improve the accuracy of physical property testing and operational efficiency by introducing AI in management.

What are your challenges outside of work? What do you like to do? Any hobbies?

In the fall of 2024, an outdoor activity club was started at JDT China. I look forward to participating in walking events. These walking events are not sponsored by the company but by people interested in walking, and I really want to appreciate nature with like-minded colleagues. Also, my three-year-old son goes to kindergarten, so I cherish the time I can spend playing with him and going out with him on my days off. I also enjoy cooking and trying different recipes. I especially enjoy baking bread, and it is one of my pleasures to serve my family freshly baked bread. Even when I am tired from work, I can relax by cooking, and when my family is delighted and says it is delicious, I feel happy, so it is the perfect way to refresh myself.

Please tell us what JDT China means to you.

JDT China is like a big warm family with the strength of bonds. The company holds birthday parties for its employees, provides regular health checkups, and organizes a company trip every year. I always feel that the company cares very much about the safety and happiness of each and every employee. All the people here are hardworking and kind, so I can work comfortably. The fact that many people work here until they reach retirement age is a sign that the company provides a stable workstyle. We are also encouraged to demonstrate creativity and skill development, and we have ample opportunities for growth from training programs and education. This greatly helps us climb the career ladder.

Comparing before and after you joined the company, what has changed?

It will soon be three years since I joined JDT China. At the beginning, I was a newcomer who knew nothing, but now, I think I have grown as a member of the Testing Lab. What has changed the most is that I have confidence and courage to work. Because I am blessed with an environment where I can actively ask about things when I am unsure of what to do or when I find it difficult to understand, I can deepen my understanding of my work. Currently, I can accurately understand the testing methods and the tasks I am responsible for. At first, I was very nervous when interacting with customers, but after assertively gaining experience without fear of failure, I am now able to deal with customers with confidence. Thanks to the company’s support, I have greatly improved my expertise related to the Testing Lab and communication skills. My supervisor gives me many opportunities to attend external workshops, and the experience gained there has helped build confidence.
